What would you do if you found out your gasoline was being siphoned from your vehicle?

I live in a very tiny village....gas station, post office, bar on a street. I noticed my mileage had been getting worse, thought it was air filter or tire pressure. Then I filled up in town one night and woke up the next morning to 3/4 of a tank. Filled up and over 3 gallons were missing. So what would you do?

1. Call the police and hope they may randomly find someone.

2. Buy a locking gas cap and hope they don't drill through the gas tank to get the gas.

3. Use an infrared camera and film everynight. (That is what we are currently doing....think my spouse just likes to play with the technology!)

4. Sleep in my car with a baseball bat.

5. Just let them have it....if they are that desperate they need it more than I do.

6. Other ideas?

First get a locking gas cap.

Then you can also make a police report. If enough people complain then they would keep their eye open for gasoline thief. Also report it to local TV and newspapers so they can alert other people. Even if you don't catch the thief, maybe other people will (and then you won't have missing gas).

Besides the Camera trick, which I like, get some motion sensor light for the area you park your car.

good Luck...

I'd buy a locking cap. if its too difficult to steal ur fuel they will probly leave u alone snd pick on someone else. go to the pigpen and report it aswell, i think the vigalanty thing is the only way ur gonna catch 'em tho
Reply:i live in a little village too..a couple times i'd go into the school..come out and find the gas tank open and out of gas....wasnt hard to find out who it was, because its a small village...keep an eye out, get a lock and yea deff leave your porch light on
Reply:i would do all the proper steps first call the police make a report, put the camera up and watch out for people, buying a gas cap may be expensive depending on what kind of car you have. but don't just let them have it because gas may hit $5 before summer is up and that's too much money to be losing to thieves. get a motion light also and if none of the proper methods work, one night stand watch, get ya bat and scare the mess out of them because there gonna keep coming back if you don't do something......good luck....
Reply:we set camera,s up to catch our gas thief's,they been hitting like mad lately,so far all we got was images but they seen the camera,so i doubt they will try again,i also put an alarm on my vehicle and if the gas cap door is opened it sounds the horn, this has scared them off also, these days gas is to hard to come by to let thief's steal it,there's different things you can do though ,i found the alarm and a locking cap is the best thing for stopping them good luck.
Reply:park in range of my motion detecting flood lights, leave the dog chained outside for a night or two.when the lights come on and dog starts barking, i would walk outside with my .45 and kindly ask what they thought they were doing to my car. then i would stay with them until the cops showed up. if you are going to confront them, be sure that you can win the confrontation and that you watch your back (taking a friend is a good idea) and take your cell phone to call 911.
Reply:I would probably get a locking cap to start.

After that, I would definitely sleep in the car with the bat. And then I would use the bat.

Really, gas is waaaay too expensive to just accept that behavior. I think one good smack in the ribs would teach them to stop....
