Alarm system that can sense when someone has slipped something through the window?

i locked my keys in a rental and was shocked when the locksmith was able to unlock the car without setting off the alarm. is there an alarm that can sense that the window was pried open (even a quarter of an inch)?

Some alarms MUST be shut off before a door can be opened. So no matter how careful the locksmith is, if the alarm is NOT turned off using the remote the alarm will sound when the door is OPENED (forget the unlocking).

That's the way it is on my Civic. On my Audi, if I UNLOCK the car door (using the key), it also turns off the alarm. STUPID.

The good news is that most thieve are NOT too smart and they don't know how to pick lock or do something sophisticated. If the did, they would work as a locksmith and make good money instead of stealing.

Good Luck...

that is fairly normal for most cars. however some high end cars and most convertibles use a microwave field sensor that will detect an intrusion without actually touching anything for example the Audi TT convertible, and some of the top audis mercedes and BMW's, this is much more common in recent years, even the new Mazda miata has it, and they are available aftermarket.
