Why does the UK pay more for Gas?

they've been paying 10$ and up for a decade. why do we get charged less?
Why does the UK pay more for Gas?
We produce oil in the US and have refineries in the US. Even though we import most of our oil, we do supplement it with domestic oil.
Why does the UK pay more for Gas?
My understanding is that more than half of the price of fuel in the UK is taxes. This is how they finance part of their government services, like universal health care. I recently talked with someone from Germany who said that about 60% of the price of fuel there (about $11/gallon, BTW) is taxes. For those that can't do math, that means that of that $11, a little over $6 goes directly to the government. Without that tax, their fuel prices would be about $4.50/gallon.
Reply:We get most of our oil from CANADA and MEXICO (not the middle east). So shipping cost is lower.

Then the UK and most of Europe tax is very high. In the UK the tax is 1/3 of the price. Meaning if the gas would be $4, instead they tack on $2 tax and it becomes $6. Unbelievable.

There are other reason that they haven't really talked about on TV.

Good Luck...
Reply:Because the Government realise just how dependent we are on our cars so they tax the death out of it knowing that we will still buy. It's our own fault, stop using your cars for things like popping 100 yds down to the shop and taking kids to school (and don't give me that rubbish about the roads are dangerous, if they are that dangerous then why let the kids out at night to roam the streets, and if every body didn't take the kids to school there wouldn't be as many cars on the road to make them so dangerous would there?)
Reply:The majority of the UK pump price for gasoline is tax.

Governments around the world realize that gas is an essential purchase so by taxing it they can significantly increase the tax-take without raising personal income or business taxes.

This high rate of fuel tax is now causing significant negative reaction from UK motorists and truckers. There was recently a huge protest in which hundreds of big rigs were used to clog major roads in an attempt to force the government to reduce the tax on diesel in the face of rising oil prices.

The government has refused.

Similar revolts are taking place in other countries where high oil prices and taxes are combining to make gasoline a very expensive commodity.
