Im looking at buying some racing seats for my lancer when i start to customize it later this summer. Im not sure if i should get the harness' with the seats or not. I mean would it look stupid with out them? also anybody know of street legal harness?
Do i need racing harness with my racing seats or will the stock seat belts be fine?
I've actually talked to some one from the CHP, they said as long as the harness are "Professionally installed" they are all legal.
regardless I had a buddy club seat, in my miata, and my ek civic, and now im waiting to put it in my del sol, and used stock seat belts with both of the cars it was in. It works fine, but really harnesses are the better choice.
Edit.
Honestly, I love bucket seats, they EXTREMELY comfortable, they have to be, think about how much time a professional driver spends in them. Theres NO WAY they can be uncomfortable and have a driver do good. The driver will focus WAY too much on moving to try and be comfortable than actually driving.
My buddy club seat is great, it holds me very well and even helped my back after i threw it out working on the miata.

You would need to bolt on the original seatbelt clicker( dont't know the name) onto the seat, like the OEM ones.
Why do you want racing seats?
They're not very comfertable, they hug too much.
Reply:Check with your local laws.
I know in my state, Harnesses are legal, as long as they are engineered, BUT even if you have the harness on, you still need to have the standard seatbelt on as well, or you can be fined.
Some racing seats are fine to be used with standard seatbelts, but some, like Sparco, wrap around your shoulders and hips, and a normal seatbelt wont do an effective job of holding you in place as the seat wont allow it to tighten down on you.
Harnesses are great, but for the street they are a pain in the butt. Do you want to do up a crotch strap just to go to the shops to get some milk? How will your GF like a harness when she is wearing a skirt? How bout when you wear shorts?
Also, dont forget that harnesses are designed to be mounted with two straps on the parcel tray, so if you have passengers in the back, they will have to poke their heads through the belts, and also, if the car is 2door, you wont be able to fold the seats forward to let back seat passengers in and out.
