Do you mean TURBO diesel (not turbo JET diesel).
And no they are great technology. In Europe many cars comes with turbo diesel. And get this: any diesel can run on BIO-DIESEL (provide you are ready to make them in your garage -as no gas stations sell bio-diesel yet).

The only draw back was the dirty exhaust, but they are fixing that with cleaner burning fuel.
