What is the next big thing in transportation?

We have been using cars that run on gas that comes from oil since the automobile was invented. In light of the price of gas these days, where are we headed? More mass transportation? Smaller, more fuel efficient cars? Horse and buggy? It seems the evolution of transportation is going backwards. Things are supposed to get better with time. Is there an advancement in transportation we can look forward to?

believe it or not the particle beam transporter out of the star trek series is a work in progress, the only thing needed is to get the bugs out, and keep the big oil away from the project, the idea does work, we just do not have computers with a lot of memory to handle the task yet (it will handle a 2 inch cube of aluminum, but not wood, or any type of skin or meat )

i couldent realy tell you but i heard 30 percent of the corn crop is going to be converted to fuel but thats gunna hurt the food market i think motorcycles are making a good come back they dotn take much gas you know
Reply:The Air Car

At the moment we are working on the design of the car and exploring the possibilities concerning our first model, The Air Car Eureka 1.1, with an air compressed motor, either on a mono- or bi- energy system (compressed air combined with electricity).

Google it...quite interesting. Another air car backed by the large auto manufacturer TATA is also in the works. Could be something.
