What should I look at before I buy a 1964 Ford Thunderbird?

I'm looking into buying a 1964 Thunderbird and could use some advice. it has new brakes and the belt was just replaced and everything and I was just wondering if there is anything I should know about this kind of car before I buy it. Like hows the gas mileage and is it a good car and about how long would you say it lasts?

look to buy another car unless you have a garage and lot of spare parts out of a wrecker's yard.

p.s this type of vehicles are quiet thirsty for fuel...

I hope you have a lot of money to maintain it....

If you are wondering about the gas mileage I suggest buying a different car. This isn't a "car", it is a classic automobile. It is not well suited to daily driving unless you know how to care for such a vehicle and truly cherish them.
Reply:the first thing i would look at is the frame and undercarriage for rust. put it on a lift preferably.kind of like buying a house you need a good foundation before you put money in it.
Reply:something else you need to consider is the engine type and whether the valve seats have been upgraded or not, other wise you will need premium fuel and lead replacer
Reply:I've owned a few of these, 64 ,5 and 66. rust is a problem. the first places they go are the tops of the front fenders(no wells) and the bottom of the rears. owned one so bad the gas tank fell out. never heard of one breaking structurally but who knows? look for loose front end parts, leaky gas tank, leaky front oil seal, and power steering drips.these old fords had a funky power assist slave unit on the center link that would spot yer drive even when rebuilt.also the dual exhaust was pricey yrs ago. rear leaf springs were prone to sag out...also expensive. ya gotta remember the people that bought these new didn't generally keep "em more than a coupla yrs and if they did ...had money! Other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln..,how did you enjoy the play? Seriously though they are pretty fast and turn more heads now than ever. Funny, i just dreamt about buying one last week.
